About Marcus Perry

Owner, Tipsy Crab

As a kid, Perry’s uncle taught him how to pick blue crabs at family cookouts. He spent summers staying with his father in New Orleans, Louisiana where he was first introduced to Gumbo. It was in Halifax County, Virginia, where his mother grew up, that he learned the importance of hospitality and family tradition. With roots in music and sports, the Woodbridge, Virginia native has always understood the importance of connection.

Perry is an entrepreneur at heart, running small businesses at a young age, from his lawn service to event planning and DJ services. With a passion for seafood, Marcus established a dedicated day to eat seafood with family and friends, dubbing it “Seafood Sundays.” Everyone had a role and Perry was always responsible for bringing crabs by the bushel. Today, the celebration lives on through his Shockoe Bottom restaurant and cocktail lounge Tipsy Crab. 

Centered on hospitality and making guests feel at home, Perry opened Tipsy Crab in 2018 and has been gaining a loyal following of seafood devotees ever since. In 2023, he revamped the space and concept, introducing a new menu, playful cocktail list and a lively Sunday brunch.

Kick off the weekend with live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays or grab the squad and dive into a brunchtastic feast featuring seafood omelet’s, catfish shrimp and grits, Tipsy French toast, and crab cake Benedicts — the new edition of Seafood Sundays.

Tipsy Crab signatures include seriously sinful tipsy crab fries, homemade gumbo, savory and creamy crab dip, shrimp po boys and their famed crab cake sandwich, created by Chef Robert Lindsay with traditional influences and a unique flare. Add a Tipsy Frozen Margarita or Tipsy Tea, and it’s a party!
